At the 2023 International Import Expo, Pony.ai and Toyota Motor jointly released the first pure electric self-driving taxi (Robotaxi) concept car, which was officially unveiled . The new car is built on the bZ4X pure electric vehicle platform produced by GAC Toyota and will be equipped with the seventh-generation L4 autonomous passenger car software and hardware system developed by Pony.ai.

This is the latest development after Pony.ai, Toyota China, and GAC Toyota announced the establishment of a joint venture in August this year to promote the large-scale deployment of Robotaxi. In the future, this model will become the first model to undertake the joint venture's task of promoting the large-scale implementation of fully driverless travel.

Pony.ai also launched the appearance styling and sensor iteration concept of the seventh-generation autonomous passenger car software and hardware system. In terms of sensors, a car-grade multi-sensor solution including solid-state lidar, cameras, and millimeter-wave radar is still used to improve the perception accuracy and safety of fully autonomous driving.

The top sensor kit continues the modular design of the front and rear segments of the sixth-generation system. In addition to achieving a higher degree of integration between the kit and the body, it also helps reduce assembly and material costs. Among them, the rear module adopts the hollow tail design for the first time, which is cleverly integrated with the sensor; the camera of the front module is moved to the inside of the windshield to improve the system performance in rain, snow, sand and other weather conditions.

This self-driving taxi pays more attention to the interaction between people and the car, and the car and the environment. The roof adopts Robotaxi's exclusive light language design, and new front and rear interactive screens display "In operation", "Vehicle U-turn", "Pull over" and other words interact with surrounding vehicles and pedestrians to enhance the friendliness of Robotaxi operations.
