In the last issue of Bitauto Original, we conducted detailed tests on the power and fuel consumption levels of four cars. It can be seen that the two Japanese cars are slightly inferior in power and fuel consumption performance; however, for consumers, this Class-level family cars focus on versatility. Can the space performance of these four cars meet our daily needs? Which one has a richer configuration level at the same price? The content of this four-vehicle review will bring you space and configuration comparisons.
Space comparison: German players narrowly beat Corolla in terms of storage space
Before looking at the space performance of each player, let’s first take a look at the specific body dimensions of these four cars.
As standard compact cars, the four cars have little difference in body size. The New Lavida has the longest body size among the four cars, and the height and width of the car are almost the same.
As for the wheelbase parameters that may affect the seating space, the two Volkswagen models are both 2688mm, while the two Japanese cars are relatively longer. The wheelbases of the Corolla and Sylphy are 2700mm and 2712mm respectively, but the difference is still only a few millimeters. between. A large wheelbase parameter does not mean that the space performance must be good. The specific details also depend on the design of the passenger space in the car and the sitting posture. Let’s use an experiencer with a height of 187cm to actually experience the space of four cars. In order to control the error, the vehicle seats were adjusted to the lowest position, and the driver's knees were also kept at a distance of one punch, and then the rear seat space was experienced.
First, let’s take a look at the front and rear space performance of the new Lavida. The front row of the New Lavida has a punch of headroom, the rear row has a punch of four fingers of headroom and a punch of four fingers of legroom.
Secondly, what is the performance of the Bora, which has the same wheelbase as the New Lavida? The Bora has four fingers of headroom in the front row, four fingers of headroom in the rear row, and three fingers of legroom in the back row. The rear space is basically the same as the Lavida, and the front headroom is slightly inferior.
Then there is the Corolla with a wheelbase of 2700mm. The front headroom is four fingers, the rear headroom is four fingers, and the legroom is two fingers. Although the Corolla has a longer wheelbase than the two German competitors, the rear legroom is not good. Analyzing the reason, I personally think it is because the center console in the front row of the Corolla is more prominent, and the front row driver and passengers are more willing to adjust their seats backwards, which intrudes into the rear leg space.
Finally, the Sylphy has the longest wheelbase. The headroom for one punch in the front, the headroom for four fingers in the back, and the legroom for four fingers in the back are basically the same as those of the two German players. Therefore, although the Sylphy has the longest wheelbase, its space performance is actually equivalent to that of the Lavida. After all, the wheelbase difference is only 24mm.
On the one hand, riding space is a car that gives people plenty of space. The impression also comes from the storage space and cargo space performance of the trunk.
In terms of storage space, the interior layout of the new Lavida and Bora are basically the same, and the design of the storage space is also basically the same. It can be seen that it is quite sufficient, not to mention the conventional glove box and door panel storage compartments. In addition, there are two cup holders and a small sundry compartment in the central control area, which is located on the left knee of the driver. There are also small storage compartments to place small items or high-speed cards. The rear center armrest with cup holders is also large enough, and the overall storage space design is very abundant.
Next is the storage space of Sylphy. The conventional storage space is also relatively abundant, but there are two shortcomings compared with the two German cars: there is no small storage compartment on the left knee of the driver; The placement of the phone is not easy due to the intrusion of the handle and the start button.
Finally, the Corolla’s storage space configuration should be at the bottom among the four cars. There is basically no extra storage space under the center console except for the two cup holders. There is no small storage compartment for cards or space for mobile phones (the owner installed a wireless charging pad for mobile phones to occupy the originally small groove) . Secondly, the armrest box is also small and shallow (the owner installed a partition in the original car that cannot be removed, so we use real photos from the gallery to show it).
The last part of the space comparison comes to the trunk space. Since the length and wheelbase parameters of the four cars are not much different, the trunk space of the four cars also performs well. The 20, 22, and 24-inch models we brought All three suitcases can be placed neatly. In terms of the height of the trunk, the Corolla is taller than the other three cars, but the impact is not significant.
Configuration comparison: The safety configurations of the four vehicles are equivalent, while the Lavida has more practical configurations
Next, let’s talk about configuration and see how these four cars perform in terms of safety configuration and practical configuration.
In terms of passive safety configuration, there is no doubt that all four cars are very complete, and in terms of active safety configuration, they all also have active braking functions. Overall, the Bora will be more complete, while the New Lavida is slightly inferior in active safety configuration. In addition, let’s take a look at the trade-offs between the four cars in terms of commonly used practical configurations at this price range.
The first is the cruise system. The four cars are high-end models of each car series. Full-speed adaptive cruise is available on the new Lavida, Bora and Corolla. However, the Sylphy, as the top-end model, does not even have fixed-speed cruise. This is somewhat beyond our expectations.
In the parking imaging system, all four cars are equipped with reversing imaging, but the Corolla does not have front and rear radars, and the other three cars have them.
In terms of car hardware, both German cars use a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument and a 12-inch central control screen, while the two Japanese carsThe performance of this series of cars is slightly worse in this regard. It is only equipped with a 7-inch LCD instrument. There are also differences among the four cars including the size of the central control screen and the car and computer systems. We have shown the specific differences in the first issue of the car and computer review. .
In terms of lamp configuration, the four cars, as high-end models, all use LED light sources. At the same time, all four cars have automatic opening and closing and delayed closing functions of the headlights. However, the Corolla will be slightly inferior in terms of interior atmosphere, and other models are equipped with interior ambient lights.
Then there are differences between the four cars in terms of wheels. The New Lavida, Bora, and Sylphy all use 17-inch wheels, while the Corolla uses 16-inch wheels.
Sensing wipers are a relatively convenient and practical configuration. Among the four cars, only the Corolla does not have them
As a car that focuses on household attributes, dual-temperature zone automatic air conditioning and rear air-conditioning outlets are not absent from these four cars. It is worth mentioning that the New Lavida is the only one among these four cars equipped with heated front seats. The benefits of this configuration can only be deeply felt when used in winter.
Generally speaking, the four cars have well consolidated the attributes of their family cars, but they have different choices in terms of configuration. Among the four cars, the Corolla has the most complete safety configurations, but it compromises too many comfort configurations for this purpose. For example, there are no electric front seats, no in-car network, ambient lights, lack of rearview mirror functions, lack of sensor wipers, etc.; the Sylphy's configuration is relatively satisfactory, but the biggest drawback is that it is not equipped with cruise control.
The configurations of the two German cars are relatively more complete. Among them, the New Lavida, as the latest model, has a relatively more prominent overall configuration richness. Compared with the Bora, it also has more front seat heating, interior trim, and more. Anti-dazzle rearview mirrors, automatic folding of exterior rearview mirrors when the car is locked, and automatic flip-down functions of exterior rearview mirrors when reversing are all commonly used in our daily lives.
Full text summary: This space and configuration comparison part is the third issue of our four-vehicle compact sedan review. I believe everyone already has a good idea of the daily space performance and configuration of these cars. In the next issue, it will be the relatively subjective design comparison and interpretation and the purchase recommendation part that everyone is paying close attention to. Before starting this part, do you have the answer in your mind?
